The PNC Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Invest PGH’s CRiB Program with Reallocated Funding, Ensuring Program Will Operate Through 2026

The PNC Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting essential childcare services by allowing the reallocation of funds from an initial investment to be used for Invest PGH’s CRiB (Childcare Reinvestment Business) Fund. This crucial reassignment of funds will ensure that the CRiB program, which supports childcare providers, will continue to operate through 2026, expanding opportunities for childcare businesses and entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh’s communities.

The PNC Foundation has been instrumental in funding the CRiB program from its inception, recognizing the vital role that affordable, high-quality childcare plays in fostering economic growth and stability. As cities like Pittsburgh work to revitalize their neighborhoods, access to reliable childcare is critical for working families. By realigning this funding source , PNC has enabled Invest PGH to fully utilize the remaining funds and continue addressing the demand for childcare services.

The CRiB program focuses on providing childcare businesses and providers with access to business development resources, continuing education through Chatham Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship, and funding. The program plays a pivotal role in addressing Pittsburgh’s childcare needs, helping childcare providers transform and maintain safe, nurturing environments for children. Since its launch, CRiB has supported numerous childcare businesses, contributing to both needed services and economic recovery.

“Since its inception in 2021, the CRiB program has provided funding to 47 childcare businesses in the City of Pittsburgh, all of which are still in business, with 88% of them increasing their enrollment and providing a total of 357 new childcare spots,” said Rebecca Davidson-Wagner, president, Invest PGH. “The funding from PNC and partnerships with the URA, Chatham, and Trying Together has brought a suite of resources and support to this sector, and it is making a lasting difference for Pittsburgh’s parents, their children, and these small businesses.”

Applications for the CRiB program are currently open. The program offers childcare providers the chance to access the funding and resources – as well as the support – they need to succeed. With this funding revision, Invest PGH is excited to continue empowering these crucial businesses and owners to create lasting change in their neighborhoods.
